Northeast

Northeast, Massimo Carlotto, Marco Videtta, Edizioni E / O, 2006, 9.50 €.

Northeast, says an ancient theme, the relationship between fathers and sons, its place in the Northeast Italian. A land rich and complex, considered the locomotive of the Italian economy, which today is experiencing an epochal crisis that led to the flight of industry to China and Romania. And it is precisely the environment in big industrial families that they become murder of a young woman to be married. In the background the "country", the name does not matter because all the Northeast big families are all alike and the territory has no identity. Northeast is a noir that, from a crime, said the lawlessness that has allowed us to accumulate great wealth and an economic system that has never posed problems than the looting of the territory. Main character is Francis, son of the second richest family in the country, a young lawyer had written that the future will have to deal with its environment and choose between truth and "normal."

Fairy tales with happy endings only exist in the imagination. The reality is different. The reality is how violent the blow of a butcher. Reality stinks like a metastasis. The reality is fake as the moans of a bitch. The reality is burning. Scott. And if one tries to write about reality, most likely it will burn. It will not be a walk. But then the writer what to do? Must kidnap the player to carry around a few hours in a world of velvet, fairy tale where the good guys always win and the bad guys burn in hell? Must remove the player from a world that has a woven heart of darkness, making him forget for a handful of hours that the world in which he lives is a terminally ill patient? Maybe. Some do. Some do it well, others less well. Some, however, just can not do it. Not because they are able. Do not do it because they are anchored damn down to earth. Do not do it because that really slimy cited in the opening is pasted to the eyes and mind, and there's no way of chess. They fail to look around and not shudder. They can not shut up. Translated into words the images and the disgust they feel watching the misery, corruption, and black lutulento that surrounds the city in general, and use their talent for telling stories with background of truths. Lengthen the look of the player views on dark, tiny streets that stink of piss and depravity on a perverse criminal minds for which the profit comes before all else. They do it to send out a cry of alarm. They do it to scream that there is something wrong with the world in which we live. And that something is wrong, most of the time is right in the most sensitive point: in the heart. A novel heart noir.Il Northeast, co-written by Massimo Carlotto, Marco Videtta, belongs to the ranks of stories born of a sense of revulsion, a pressing need to tell the obscenities on which the two authors have investigated for three years, monitoring the economic and crime of that vast territory which is called the Northeast, the famous economic locomotive / Italian industry, which hides many skeletons in the closet. Indeed, it is wrong to say in the closet. The Northeast hides its skeletons under the earth, burying its secrets where no one can find them. But not in its territory. Never let it be. Burying them in the lands of Campania, which he uses as illegal dump in agreement with the Camorra. This is covered in the book, anticipating the sad reality that we are living these days-but not only. In fact you start with a murder. A murder sui generis. The girlfriend of Francesco Visentin, brilliant young lawyer, is found dead in a bathtub, most likely killed by her lover after a consensual sexual relationship. Francis, who would to marry the girl a few days later, he was completely unaware of this lover and is point-blank in the position of a widower, can be investigated and cuckold. As the scion of a powerful family, the young can not afford to show weakness and pain in his "country", an anonymous country where honor, appearance and social positions are the only things that count. But Francis does not want to surrender, and it'll hunt the culprit, going to find vessels that were to be capped and revealing the true identity of the Northeast. An identity made up of corruption, ruthless competition, and a criminal heart rot and perennial metastases. In the northeast dominated by wealthy industrialist families, Francesco discovers that nothing is ever as it appears on the outside, and even the most unexpected people can be carriers of secrets and dark colpe.Il novel has a narrative structure made of twists and embeddings refer to situations of charm and intrigue that keep you from leaving the reading, and indeed, to finish it as soon as possible. It is a noir story telling, for his soul and his criminal complaint to a society distorted, but the way it tells the story, the pace and speed, are those of a detective thriller and a fused , also because of a double narrative in first-and third-person in this gives a particular direction and an almost cinematic fluidity that gives the novel-the narrative engine. It is very interesting that this novel was written by two people, styles and experiences that come from worlds quite different from each other; Videtta Marco is a writer, and Carlotto is a writer. It is even more strange that these two authors have managed to fuse their writing styles, making the harmonious novel from the point of view of style as if it were written by an individual. Surely the story, the encounter of these two authors, has gained in literary wealth. Carlotto has brought his style dry, sharp and incisive knowledge and the worlds of intrigue and criminals, Videtta a way of writing and see places, characters and atmospheres, typically film, which got charm, freshness and immediacy to the words of Massimo Carlotto descritte.Le images floating in a black sea. Cloudy. A sea that smells of death. A sea of \u200b\u200bcorruption that stinks. He knows that sea, Carlotto. He described several times in his novels, which he uses as headlights to illuminate some dark areas of our society. Carlotto is one of those writers fully convinced that people need to know where he lives, and next to swim like sharks. It is a talented writer. He knows the weight of words, the sa balance, and the necessary know how to throw knives. It has a good shot. Those knives Ink always center the target. Always hit the same point. At the heart, so that the reader can not down from the pages of his novels without having breathed the scent with the eyes or the smell of his every word. Many people are affected by this strange disease that leads you to label anything. Even the literature. So is winning praise as a writer Massimo Carlotto noir. What comes to murder. What brings the bad news. What sharpens the words to shred the apple of his readers. Wrong. Carlotto is a writer. The noir is half. It is a means to drag the reader where the writer wants to Padua. It is a means, like a motorcycle. Sure, Carlotto loves that bike. The shine on well, pampers its engine, trying to get the best out of that medium. You know that bike to ride really well. Become one. Him running. And the reader who sits dietro.Questa time to driving in two. Massimo Carlotto, Marco Videtta. But the result is the same. Straight to the goal at two hundred miles an hour. Carlotto, besides being an excellent writer, has another very interesting talent: he loves experiment. With this novel began to experience writing for four hands, which then led to a fruitful collaboration with the Sardinian writer Francesco Abate-which wrote Catfish Aliberti publisher, and lucky I trust you, Einaudi 2007 - but his experiments do not restrict only to the collaboration con altri scrittori.
